5th International Conference on Multi-National Joint Ventures for Construction Work, October 21-22, 2009

Associate Professor Dr Christopher Preece is an organiser and member of the International Scientific Committee for this joint conference between the International Islamic University Malaysia and Kyoto University in Japan to take place in Kuala Lumpur between 21st and 22nd October 2009. The global economic crisis facing the construction industries of all advanced and developing nations provides the backdrop to this years’ Conference. The focus will be on how joint venture strategies in the construction industry can help firms develop their businesses in an extremely volatile, competitive, and risky economic environment. As domestic markets shrink, construction businesses attempt to seek opportunities abroad. Appropriate and effective approaches to joint ventures become even more imperative. The Fifth International Conference on Joint Ventures will build on the work of the previous sessions but with an urgent agenda, given the critical nature of the world economy and extremely high risk nature of international business. This year’s event also incorporates the inaugural ‘Construction in the Muslim World Conference.’ The key aim of this Conference is to draw attention to the importance of construction in developing Muslim economies especially in the context of promoting and sustaining socio-economic growth and development.
